Sarum Wand 2011

GNAS Rule 307 definitely did not apply as 31 SWAC and visiting archers lined up for sighters in theInaugural SWAC Wand Shoot at Trafalgar School on 6th February 2011.  With the wind blowing SW at 15 – 20 mph and the threat of rain in the air, keeping warm and dry was the priority.
Fortunately, the rain held off and we had a good shoot with some great (and some not-so-great) scores.

The ‘wands’ are six feet tall and six inches wide positioned in a 3 foot diameter ‘ring’. You score 6 for hitting the wand and 1 for a ring. Of the 2232 arrows loosed, only 57 found a wand whilst a further 134 found a ring so its not easy, but it is good fun.

SWAC archers did well, picking up Gold in Ladies (Sam Moss), Gents (Alan Biles) and Junior (Catherine Labdon) barebow categories..

Hurrah for SWAC: (L-R) Billy, Tricia, Sam, Alan & Catherine

At the prize-giving it was decided that next year will be a triple wand, i.e. 9 dozen arrows, so we’ll half as much fun again. There may also be a 180 yard ‘compound only’ wand too.
