SWAC Competitions

Throughout the year the club holds various competitions for all members to take part in. Some have specific categories for beginners and novice, some do not. All members are welcome to take part in as many as they wish to.

Junior Archers of the Year

Points are awarded to each junior who is placed in each of the club’s competitions, depending on how many archers are shooting in your category.  These points are then added up to give you an overall score to put towards the Junior Archer of the Year award which is split into Girls & Boys.  The results for this award are announced at the annual SWAC Awards Evening usually held in May.

Have a look at the following club competitions – those that don’t give you points towards this award will be clearly marked with a
N/A. The more competitions you take part in – the more points you can gain!

Winter Field Champs

A shoot is held – under NFAS competition rules and conditions – once a month between October and April that gives you six chances to submit a score. Your two highest scores are added together and will give you your ranking. There are separate categories for beginners and seniors and each bowstyle will have its own category. Winners are announced at the annual Awards Evening in May.

Dave Enticott Memorial Competition

This is a Field Competition held every April at Bushey to celebrate the life and memory of Dave Enticott, former archer at SWAC who sadly passed away. This shoot is to be shot to NFAS rules with each bowstyle and class awarded a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place. Archers to shoot 30 targets in all - (great practice for new members considering taking part in NFAS Open Comps!) JUNIORS - Make sure you know which peg to shoot from!

Alan Ball Memorial Shoot N/A (points to be used from 2009 season onwards)

This shoot is a handicap shoot – your scores are submitted and are put through a ‘special’ mathematical formula. Because of this, all bowstyles compete against each other – regardless of experience (however beginners usually fair better!). Medals are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Ladies, Gents and Juniors. This competition usually takes place in the late summer.

Pete Corbin Memorial Shoot N/A (points to be used from 2009 season onwards)

This is a handicap shoot just like the Alan Ball Memorial Shoot. Usually takes place in the late autumn. First placed archers will receive a beautiful water colour painting to take home for the year.

Clout Competition

Clout shooting is extremely fun to do! For more information on it go to the Target Zone. This competition runs from January to December where you will have 4 or five chances to submit a score. Your top two scores are added together and you are ranked accordingly. There are separate categories for the different age groups. Winners are announced at the annual Awards Evening in May.

Summer Outdoor Comp

This is based on the various Warwick rounds and shot during the summer season. The round you shoot will depend on your bowstyle, class and how long you have been shooting. The winners are announced at the annual Awards Evening in May.
The rules and rounds to be shot for this competition can be found here.

Winter Outdoor Comp

Exactly the same as the summer outdoors above - but you will need to be a little bit braver due to the higher prevalence of wind and bad weather! The winners are announced at the annual Awards Evening in May. This competition runs at the same time as the Winter Indoor Season.

Winter Indoor Champs

This competition is shot during the indoor season where you will have a chance to submit a score on a weekly basis. Your two highest scores are added together and will give you your ranking. The round to be shot is a Worcester which is only 20 yards - very suitable for beginners and archers of all abilities.

The Deutgen Arrow

This is a one day competition in the summer where each archer is to shoot an American Round (60 50 & 40 yards). All archers are welcome to take part.

Handicap Improvement Award

Every time an archer submits a score for target archery they are given a handicap rating. Your actual handicap is the average of your top three ratings for that year. The archer that improves his or her handicap the most in one year wins! All archers are entered for the category regardless of age, ability or bowstyle.

Christmas Handicap Shoot N/A

This shoot is based on a St Nicholas for adults (40 & 30 yrds) and a Short Junior National for juniors (30 & 20 yrds). In this shoot, your score that you submit will be compared to your handicap. The archers who surpass their handicap the most are the winners. Awards are presented the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Ladies, Gents, Junior Boys and Junior Girls. This competition is ideal for beginners!
